I would like to know how to prepare fresh green beans, farm grown. I'm a city girl and have never done this..

My neighbor's mother owns a farm and he brought me approx 2 lbs of fresh green beans along with smoked ham hock. I snapped off the ends of the beans and put it all in my crock pot with onions and seasoned it with pepper and crazy salt. Did I do this correctly? Any suggestions?

Sounds good as long as you kept your eyes on them to make sure they didn't get too soggy and wilted/brown.

I personally love Giada De Laurentiis (Everyday Italian on Food Network)'s recipe. Very easy and fast to make and it's delicious! Grow your own basil during the spring/summer and you'll have it on hand whenever you need it. A definate favorite:

Sauteed Green Beans with Tomatoes and Basil

1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 large shallots, thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can diced tomatoes
1/4 cup dry white wine
2 tablespoons thinly sliced fresh basil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Cook the green beans in a large pot of boiling water until just crisp-tender, about 3 minutes. Drain and rinse in cold water. Drain well; set aside.
Melt the butter and oil in a heavy, large skillet over medium heat. Add the shallots and garlic and saute until tender, about 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes and cook until heated through, about 3 minutes. Add the beans and cook until the juices evaporate and the beans are almost tender, stirring often, about 10 minutes. Stir in the wine and basil. Simmer 2 minutes longer. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Transfer to a serving bowl, and serve.

i have a neighbor who is obsessed with feeding the birds. she has at leat 50 bird feeders, will give them 3 loafs of bread a week and 3 bowls of popcorn a day, she told me she goes through 40 lbs of seed a week. i told her it would be better for the birds and everyone around, if she could minimize her feeding habits. i find dead birds on my property all the time. her answer is "well thats nature"

so now they are taking baths and crapping allover my pond which has a wooden exterior and i applied two coats of polyurethane, so how else can i protect my pond and its contents. one of my fish is missing, so now i think the birds are eating them(goldfish) its a 313 gallon pond.
i have only seen the birds land on my lily pads and than quickly jump off
